From VFP-62, LCDR George Monthan moved on as XO for the short-lived VF-132, also at Cecil Field. When the Cuban Missile Crisis broke out, I think he was doing some refresher gunnery training with VF-174 prior to taking over as CO of his own squadron (VF-103) at NAS Oceana in December 1962. Because he was at Cecil already, had experience with VFP-62, and VFP-62 needed some senior staff, I believe he did some temporary duty with the squadron during the Cuban Missile Crisis.--Margaret Monthan, daughter.
